The coupon can be used once in-store and once online for a total of $80 of savings. When you apply and are approved for the Target debit card, you are mailed a coupon code for $40 off of a purchase over $40. The application for the Target debit card can be completed online at /redcard or in-store. The exception is business cards from Capital One, Discover®, and TD Bank, which will show up on a credit report and count towards 5/24. Most business cards like the Chase Ink Business Preferred® and American Express Business Gold do not count towards 5/24. The five spots do not just apply to Chase cards - American Express®, Citi®, Capital One, and even store cards count towards 5/24. Note: The 5/24 rule is a Chase-specific rule that states if you have opened five or more credit cards in the past 24 months, Chase will reject your application. Therefore, if you open multiple credit cards a year and do not want a new application to affect your 5/24 score, the Target debit card checks that box. The Target debit card has no annual fee, and it does not result in a hard pull on your credit report.

"Boys don't tie goats after eighth grade, so what a career end," Kathryn Mavity said.īelfield native Cayden Kling faired well at the NJHFR, finishing second in boys breakaway with a time of 9.62 seconds. In addition to his Junior Boy's Reserve World Champion status in goat tying, he finished 30th in breakaway roping. He won the average in goat tying but finished second overall, just six points behind winner Denton Good. I felt like I was doing my best in goat tying at that point." "I felt like I could do good at Little Britches," Mavity said. Mavity rode his success into the following weekend at the National Little Britches Rodeo in Guthrie, Okla., running from July 9-15. Yes, he did very well, but who he was on really mattered too." "I remember Luke being like 9 years old when we first got him and then to be able to go and make a world record on him, that's what brought tears to my eyes. The way that he looks when he comes down into that arena, when you get to look at all the pictures, his little ears are forward, like, 'What's in there? What are we going at?' Then the minute Luke let him see the goat, his ears just pinned backward," Mavity's mother, Kathryn, said of Ricky. I think that they should make home schooling a have-to for attending more junior rodeos."He's just an old man. If the parents can school the kids well, then O.K., but if they keep them out of school just so the kids can rodeo and do a poor job on the schooling, shame on them. It is easier to go to rodeos and rope at home when you are home schooled. Not many people get to make a living with a rope in hand. I really agree with home schooling, my kids just aren’t old enough to attend junior rodeos yet.Įducation MUST be a priority. It can also teach them strategy, which can be a valuable asset as they enter the business world. Rodeoing can teach children to keep their head up, even if things aren’t going the way they want them to. On the other hand, rodeoing can instill characteristics that are needed in today’s society. I don’t have any kids at this point, but, a child’s education is the most important developmental stage in their life. I don’t believe a child should be home schooled for the purpose of attending more rodeos or ropings. If a kid really loves rodeo, let them, but keeping them motivated due to the lack of friends or other sports is going to be hard. I believe there are benefits for children attending school. Home schooling, if practiced, should be for academic reasons only. That seems an excessive measure in order to compete in rodeos. A good rodeo is one of the best educators you can receive from both the participants and the livestock! Learning to participate and compete with others and experience both the excitement and self-accomplishment in winning and by showing good sportsmanship when others win. Junior Rodeo is also an educator, but a different kind. Home schooling could be a real timesaver for the education that IS required today. As long as they’re gettin’ their schoolin’ then its alright. I believe it’s a good thing but that’s just me. It gives them better opportunities for rodeo competing. Here is what some of our readers had to say about the idea. About half of the respondents are parents and the other half aren’t. However, the comments regarding the overall philosophy of home schooling varied widely. Only about 2 percent of respondents have either been home schooled or home school their children. In our latest Web survey, we asked respondents about home schooling for the purpose of attending more rodeos and ropings. “I kind of figured I was six, the day before I had seen them tie them in 7 flat, and I felt like my run came together a little quicker than that, but I didn’t know it was quite that fast,” he added. Canton’s previous personal best time was 6.9 seconds. The previous record was 6.5 seconds, held jointly by five-time world champion Cody Ohl at the 2003 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and Clint Robinson last year in Amarillo, Texas.Ĭanton roped and tied the black and white spotted calf, using three swings and a wrap and hooey. “I’m pretty laid-back so it’s no great big thing, but it does mean something to get to my age and tie one that fast.” Canton turned 40 in September. That low was 6.3 seconds-but don’t look for it to change the Navasota, Texas, cowboy. “But getting down that low is a little different.” “It was a fast setup, it looked like you could be six fairly easily-if anything,” Canton said. Fourteen-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier Ricky Canton broke the world tie-down roping record, Thursday, July 28, during the second round of the Strathmore (Alberta) Stampede. “I won’t get et! You shoot me if they take me!” And some of the plot itself runs on luck – we’ve never heard about Mal’s injury moving his pressure point until after it became convenient, which is how Mal defeats the Operative, which is how he gets off his big Heroic Speech at the end. You can see how his need to get out a moral statement in the way that he sacrifices both plot and character for it many people have noticed that Mal, Simon, and Jayne’s relationships all seem to have been reset, and beloved commentor DJ JD has noted that the scifi explanation for the Reavers we get doesn’t completely hold together with what we saw in the show. Television gives him the scope to find nuance and character within his worldview, but film forces him to do one thing and one thing only, and so I think Serenity is the result of him cramming an entire TV show’s worth of ideas into two hours this is his Zodiac, the purest expression of Whedon. More than any of his other work, Serenity is a step-by-step explanation of what Whedon thinks is right and wrong. That first quote is from the film, and that second quote is from Joss Whedon’s director’s commentary, and it tells us two things: 1) Whedon has heard of subtext but has trouble grasping the practicalities, and 2) that Whedon is writing a manifesto. When he says, ‘I’m a fan of all seven,’ he’s saying that sin is just what people are it’s been codified, it’s been given a name, but all of those things we take as faults are also the source of pleasure and decency, and we should perhaps rethink it.” And you take that further and you say the idea of sin is in fact outmoded, is in fact more archaic than anything that Mal believes in. It’s just simply not how human beings are. It’s about the idea that you cannot impose your way of thinking on people, even if your way of thinking is more enlightened and better than theirs. There are two main ingredients that act as physical blockers-titanium and zinc oxide. Mineral sunscreens act as a physical barrier between you and UV rays, scattering the light when it hits your skin. Chemical sunscreens tend to be more irritating, as allergies to the active ingredients are more common. Some chemicals have been linked to endocrine disruption, although the data isn’t conclusive. Second, there have been studies suggesting that chemical sunscreen ingredients like oxybenzone and octinoxate can seep into water while you swim and bleach coral reefs. The first: They need to be applied more often than mineral sunscreens because they’re not photostable and break down upon exposure to UV light. There are a few drawbacks with chemical sunscreens. Because of their properties, chemical filters tend to be more cosmetically elegant and can be formulated into lightweight moisturizers and oils. This process takes about 15 minutes, so if you’re using chemical sunscreen filters, then you should be giving yourself at least that much time before heading outdoors. These work by absorbing the sun’s rays, turning it into heat, then releasing said heat through skin. Chemical sunscreens use organic materials like oxybenzone, avobenzone, homosalate, octinoxate, octocrylene, and octisalate to offer sun protection. There are two types of sunscreen filters: chemical and mineral. (And remember: These sunscreens should be used in addition to hats and protective clothing, and wearing any of them doesn’t excuse you from spending time in the shade, since no sunscreen can completely prevent sun damage.) To find the best facial sunscreens to use, we asked Stein and 11 more dermatologists and skin-care professionals to recommend sunscreens for different skin types and activities. This can be tricky, though, especially if you’re prone to breakouts or have sensitive skin. You should always reapply sunscreen after every two hours in the sun, Stein says, even if you don’t burn easily. Jennifer Stein, a dermatologist at NYU Langone Health, says everyone should generally look for s unscreens with broad-spectrum coverage (which protects against UVB rays that cause burning and UVA rays that cause lasting damage) and an SPF of 30 or higher, and she notes that a high SPF doesn’t mean you can go hours without reapplying. It helps with everything from hyperpigmentation to fine lines to acne, and protects skin from sun damage, which can lead to a host of other problems. Nearly every skin concern can be exasperated by not wearing SPF. It’s a daily must-do, right up there with washing your face. After years of beauty reporting and countless conversations with dermatologists and estheticians, I’ve learned that sunscreen is a nonnegotiable, year-round thing. "The dimensions/size of the cabinet is an important feature to consider because that will depend on the size files you plan to store in the cabinets," says professional organizer Shaniece Jones. The different types of filing cabinets mainly vary in terms of size. What to Look for in a File Cabinet Type, Size, and Organization Options For our Best Budget, we recommend the Hirsh Space Solutions 2-Drawer Filing Cabinet, which has two lockable drawers and an anti-tip design. Plus, it arrives fully assembled with white-glove delivery. It boasts high-quality construction, dual locking drawers, and 360-degree caster wheels. Our Best Overall is the Poppin Stow 2-Drawer Rolling File Cabinet. Just keep in mind that the drawer won't be the most durable option available, and since it doesn't lock, it isn't the most secure either.ĭimensions: 13.8 x 14.25 x 16.4 inches | Material: Metal, MDF, fabric | Color: Dark gray, white | Drawers: 1 | Wheels: Yes | Lockable: No Plus, if you ever need more storage, you can buy additional cabinets and stack them together-the divots on the top of the cabinet will keep them in place. The caster wheels make it easy to move around your space. It measures about 14 inches tall, 14 inches wide, and 16.5 inches deep, with a single drawer for hanging letter- or legal-size file folders, depending on the direction you hang them.įeaturing a metal and MDF (medium-density fiberboard) frame and fabric-covered drawer, this unit comes in a dark driftwood gray or white with a gray drawer. If you're short on space and need something more compact, the BirdRock Home Rolling Cabinet might be just the thing. However, the filing cabinet arrives fully assembled, and considering the size, it's a decent value for the $200 range.ĭimensions: 46.38 x 14.25 x 18 inches | Material: Powder-coated steel | Color: Black, pearl white | Drawers: 4 | Wheels: No | Lockable: Yes We read some reports that the steel is on the thinner side and might be more easily dented than heavy-duty file cabinets, so this might be most appropriate for light home use, rather than a busy office setting. Only two of the drawers lock, and they don't extend all the way out, but this is by design to prevent tipping. Each drawer features a chic shaker-cabinet-style front with a metal pull handle. You can snag the file cabinet in one of two neutrals-black or ivory. Measuring just 14 inches wide, it features four drawers that accommodate letter-size hanging file folders. Luckily, we spotted the Ebern Designs Cavitt Cabinet, which packs a lot of storage space into a small footprint. "Vertical file cabinets are a great way to store files without taking up too much floor space," says Pia Thompson, professional home organizer and founder of Sweet Digs. Laura Davidson offers a two-year warranty on the file cabinet, as well.ĭimensions: 24 x 15.75 x 20 inches | Material: Powder-coated steel | Color: 19 colors available | Drawers: 3 | Wheels: Yes | Lockable: Yes On the plus side, all three drawers are lockable. This means that it might not have enough room for all your files if you need two drawers' worth of space. This file cabinet features one large drawer for letter-size hanging folders, plus two smaller drawers for other important items you want to keep secure. This model has a sleek look that would look great in any workspace, but when it comes to filing cabinet placement in general, "another option would be in a closet where it would be out of sight," says Jones. Available in over a dozen colorways, this file cabinet has smooth caster wheels, which make it easy to roll around your home, whether you place it in your office or under a desk. If wheels are a must-have for your file cabinet, consider the Laura Davidson Stockpile Curve, our Best with Wheels pick. While the price is steep for the size, there's no denying the high-quality construction.ĭimensions: 25 x 15.75 x 20 inches | Material: Powder-coated steel | Color: White, black, gray, teal | Drawers: 2 | Wheels: Yes | Lockable: Yes And if you order it from Poppin, you can take advantage of the brand's white-glove delivery service and generous 120-day return policy. Good news: The Stow arrives fully assembled. We also like that this file cabinet has four caster wheels that glide smoothly, spin 360 degrees for easy transport, and lock into place to prevent the cabinet from rolling away. If you're looking for a secure cabinet, you'll be glad to know that both drawers on this model are lockable, and you'll get a set of two keys. This compact two-drawer unit is set up for hanging files, and each drawer extends all the way out for easy access without tipping over. The Poppin Stow Rolling File Cabinet, our Best Overall pick, is made of powder-coated steel and available in your choice of white, black, gray, or teal. The Spruce Home Improvement Review Board. This means if there is a face down card remaining after the 3 of Clubs is moved, it should be turned up, and it becomes another card you can build with. Remember that in each of the tableau columns, the last card should always be flipped face up. This is called “building.” For example, if the third column has a 3 of Clubs, it can be moved to another column beneath a card that is either a 4 of Hearts or Diamonds. Similarly, cards on the tableau can be moved around to other columns where there is a card of the opposite color and an incrementally higher number. Either a 7 of Spades or Clubs from the stockpile can be placed on top of it. For example, let’s say there is an 8 of Hearts on the third column of the tableau. Stockpile cards can be placed below a card in the Tableau if that card is of the opposite color, and a number higher than the stock pile card. The tableau is the group of cards with the seven columns, with the last card of each column turned faced up, and with each column having an additional card (i.e., the first column has one card, the second column has two cards and so on until the seventh column which has seven cards) Moving the cards from the stockpile to the foundation or the tableau Moving the cards from the stockpile to the tableauĬards from the stock pile can also be placed in the Tableau. If your second card is a Two of Spades from the stockpile, you can then place that on top of the Ace of Spades in the Foundation pile. For example, if you happen to have an Ace of Spades as the first card turned over from your stockpile, you can place that card on the foundation pile for Spades. These cards can either go into the foundation or the tableau, which is the cards laid out in staircase fashion below the stockpile.Ĭards can be moved directly to the foundation if it’s in the correct order. Each card is removed from the stockpile one at a time, or three at a time, depending on the type of game. On the top left, you’ll see a stack of cards. Once you’ve done this with all four foundation piles, you win the game! Moving the cards from the stockpile to the foundation For example, you would place the Ace of Spades first, followed by the two of spades, then three of spades, until the King of Spades is placed. Each pile represents a different suit, and should be filled in order, starting with the Ace all the way to the King. These are the four empty areas at the top of the game. To win, you want to place all cards in the four foundation piles. How to play Klondike solitaire Goal of the game and how to win To pass time, miners would naturally play solitaire, and the term Klondike Solitaire, which pays homage to the territory, was coined. It was a grueling journey where miners would have to carry over a year's worth of food supply. Gold was discovered in the northwest region of Canada, or the Klondike area of the Yukon territory, which triggered a rush of miners from the west coast of the United States. Even to this day, Patience is still used to describe the game, especially in Europe.īelieve it or not, the term Klondike Solitaire traces its history back to the gold rush of the late 1890s. Back then the game was called Patience, given that you need “patience” to win a game. We know the game developed in popularity in Germany, France, and later the rest of Europe around that time. The early origins of Solitaire date back to Germany in the 1780s. Why is it the game called Klondike solitaire? Some of them have shader issues, I will add some comparison screenshots. Best list of Gideros Studio Alternatives in 2023 My father, James 'Jimmy' Gooch, was a member of the British Dental Association for many years. We extend our sympathies to his wife Margaret, his son Ronnie, his daughter Fiona and his four grandchildren. He and Margaret celebrated their golden wedding only months ago. He was a family man and was proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Ramsay was a credit to his profession, and was highly regarded by his colleagues and friends, and also by his patients as a caring and skilled clinician. He was a keen, passionate golfer and a member of Glasgow Golf Club for many years and a former captain of the Western Dental Golf Club. To mark his contribution to the Association he was elected to life membership. He was successively social convenor, chairman of branch council for six years and president of the branch in 1975. He held a number of offices in the branch and was a member of branch council for 15 years. Ramsay joined the BDA when he qualified and remained a loyal and committed member. Ramsay was a visiting dental surgeon in the Conservation Department of Glasgow Dental Hospital and School from 1968 until 1973. In the following year Ramsay became a district dental officer with Lanarkshire Health Board, and continued in this post until his retirement in 1984. He practiced first in the West End of Glasgow, and then in Clarkston until 1973, when he entered the school dental service as a senior dental officer in Renfrewshire. He subsequently spent four years in the Royal Navy before commencing general dental practice in Glasgow. Ramsay was born and brought up in Glasgow, where he qualified as a dental surgeon in 1944. His colleagues and friends will always remember Charlie as an ever cheerful raconteur, who could reduce an audience to helpless laughter.Ī. In the past few years he took up painting both in oil and watercolour. He was also a keen golfer and as the years passed he became ever more passionate about bridge. As a young man, however, he was an enthusiastic cricketer, and played for and later became president of Drumpellier Cricket Club. Looking at Charlie's dental activities it is difficult to see how he had time for anything else. He was closely involved in setting up a General Practice Unit, where students operated in similar conditions to general practice. After studying the subject in depth he became very proficient in its use, and used it extensively, not just for dental patients, but also to help people to give up smoking.Ĭharlie was a visiting surgeon to Glasgow Dental Hospital and School and lectured to students for many years. He was particularly interested in hypnosis as a useful tool in reducing his patients fears. When John Marshall Banks retired in 1971, Charlie was elected to the vacant seat on the General Dental Council by Scottish dentists. This was the first time that such an honour had come to the West of Scotland for over 30 years. The culmination of his dento-political career came in 1987 with his election as president of the British Dental Association at the annual meeting in Glasgow. In 1988 he was awarded a fellowship in dental surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in recognition of his work for the dental profession. In 1974 Charlie was appointed chief administrative dental officer to Lanarkshire Health Board, and remained in that post until he retired in 1992. He was a member of Lanarkshire local dental committee, the BDA's Representative Board, BDA Council, chairman of the Scottish General Dental Services Committee and chairman of the West of Scotland BDA Council. During these years he became ever more involved in dental politics and was involved in numerous committees, both local and national.
